2018 Alumni Perspectives Survey: The Value of a Graduate Management Education

This report presents findings from the 2018 Alumni Perspectives Survey associated with alumni perceptions of the value of their graduate management education.

Overview

This survey report is the first in a series of topical reports based on the results of the 2018 Alumni Perspectives Survey. Topics covered include value perceptions, retrospective decision, career preparation, hiring intention, and recommendation intention. The results are based on the survey responses 10,882 alumni representing 274 institutions and a wide variety of program types.

Quick Facts

  • Seventy-nine percent of responding business school alumni rate of the value of their graduate management education as outstanding or excellent. Just 4 percent rate it fair or poor. A professionally rewarding experience is the primary driver of overall value of a graduate management education.
  • Ninety-three percent of alumni say they would still pursue a graduate management education again knowing what they know now. A financially rewarding experience is the primary driver of alumni’s retrospective decision.
  • Different program types provide varying levels of specific value to graduates. For example, full-time MBA alumni express the most agreement that their education increased their earnings power. Professional MBA alumni express the most agreement that their education prepared them for leadership positions.
  • Nearly all responding alumni (95%) would recruit a student from their alma mater for a job opening at their organization.
