The Virtual Discussion Forum (VDF) is not recorded and provides an open and dynamic platform for participants to engage in real-time conversations without the worry of their interactions being recorded.

From Admit to Arrival: Rethinking Orientation for 2025 - Virtual Discussion Forum

As we prepare to welcome the next wave of students, it’s a good time to connect and share ideas on how we’re setting the stage for a strong start –beginning from the earliest point of engagement. Orientation and onboarding programs are powerful opportunities in shaping first impressions, building community, and ensuring students feel prepared and supported for the journey ahead. But let’s be honest—pulling off a successful orientation isn’t easy. It takes planning, coordination across teams, and a whole lot of attention to detail. From schedules and speakers to tech tools and team roles, it’s a puzzle with a lot of moving pieces. This virtual discussion we’ll explore how graduate programs are reimagining orientation for 2025 and beyond. From online onboarding strategies to pre-term engagement and hybrid programming, we’ll explore what’s working –and what is worth rethinking.  We’ll discuss how to better support an increasingly diverse student body—many of whom may be navigating new academic cultures, time zones, or expectations. We’ll also discuss the role of early engagement in reducing melt and increasing student confidence from admit to arrival.
