Student Recruitment for Graduate Business Schools Is Focus of Graduate Management Admission Council European Conference at IESE

Developing successful strategies for student recruitment in today’s turbulent economy is the theme of the second annual European conference of the Graduate Management Admission Council

Developing successful strategies for student recruitment in today’s turbulent economy is the theme of the second annual European conference of the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 13 and 14, at IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. GMAC is the association of international graduate business schools and owner of the GMAT exam.

Philip Delves Broughton will deliver the opening keynote, “Why Isn’t Business Taught More Like an Art and Less like a Science?” on Tuesday evening. Broughton is former New York and Paris bureau chief for The Daily Telegraph of London and author of What They Teach You at Harvard Business School.

Jordi Canals, dean of conference host school IESE, will open the Wednesday session. The closing keynote speaker will be Srikumar S. Rao, professor of marketing at Long Island University in New York and author of Are You Ready to Succeed? Unconventional Strategies for Achieving Personal Mastery in Business and Life. He will discuss “The Personal Mastery of Success.”

Other programme highlights include:
·    Plenary session: “Where Are We Heading,” analyzing the impact of economic trends on schools, students, and employers, led by Alex Chisholm, senior research analyst, and Julia Tyler, vice president EMEA, GMAC.
·    Panel discussion: “What Do They Know,” with Lt. Colonel Eileen Cunningham, head of operations, British Army Recruiting Group Headquarters; Edward Kemp, artistic director, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, UK; Alison Parrin, career development programme manager, EMEA, Google; Juergen Rother, flight captain and head of the Pilot Selection Board, Lufthansa. David Bach, professor of strategy and economic environment, IE Business School, will moderate.
·    Workshop: “The Selector and the Selected,” led by Martha Maznevski, professor of organizational behavior and international management and director of the MBA, IMD in Switzerland.
More than 50 business school leaders in programme direction, admissions, and marketing are expected to attend.
